WHAT WE DO
The CAAA has established a scholarship fund to assist talented young African Americans in their pursuit of higher education. The CAAA Memorial Scholarship Fund will be presented to students from Columbia public high schools (Battle, Douglass, Hickman and Rock Bridge) in honor of former Columbia African American high school students who are now deceased.

The following are brief bios of the CAAA Board of Directors.
Chief Master Sergeant (ret) Anthony D. VanBuren Sr., Chairman, CAAA, served 27 years in the US Air Force. Currently, he is a Senior Consultant for Morgan Borszcz Consulting located in Washington DC. VanBuren earned his MA in Management and BS in Logistics from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview TX. He is a 1979 graduate of David H. Hickman HS.
Master Sergeant (ret) Melvin A. Clayborne, Vice Chairman, CAAA, served 23 years in the US Army. Currently, he is employed by the Depart of Defense, serving as an Environmental Specialist with the Environmental Division, Ft Drum NY. Clayborne earned an M.ED in Education from Trident University and a BS in Human Resources from Empire State College. He is a 1980 graduate of David H. Hickman HS.
Mr. Keener A. Tippin II is the CAAA Educational/Scholarship Chair. He is currently employed as a communications coordinator with the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development. Tippin earned an M.ED in Athletic Administration and a BA in Journalism from William Woods University. He is currently pursuing an MA in Teaching from Columbia College. Tippin is a 1979 graduate of David H. Hickman HS.
Mr. James T. Turner, Treasurer, CAAA, is a 24 year employee with the University of Missouri. He is a certified BTS Master Carpenter with the Planning, Design, and Construction Department. Turner has served as Chief Union Stewart for past 10 years and a member of the union contract negotiating team for 20 years. He is the owner of Santy Properties LLC. Turner is a 1979 graduate of David H. Hickman HS.
VANESSA (BROWN) HAYWOOD
Ms. Vanessa M. (Brown) Haywood, Senior Analyst, CAAA, is an experienced Data Integration Specialist. She earned a BA in Business Administration and BS in Computer Science from Washburn University, Topeka KS. Haywood is the owner/operator of Destination-Paramount Tax Service. She is a 1979 graduate of David H. Hickman HS.
Mr. Wesley G. Buckner, Senior Advisor, CAAA, is a 24 year federal employee with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently, he serves as an EEO Case Manager for the Office of Resolution Management, Houston, Texas. He earned his MS in Healthcare Administration and BGS in African-American Studies from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He is a 1979 graduate of Rock Bridge HS.
Ms. Stacye L. Smith is the CAAA Marketing Analyst. She is a 28 year employee with Shelter Insurance Companies and currently serves as the Director of Human Resources. Smith is a Certified Diversity Professional; Diversity Awareness Partnership Advisory Board member; and Commissioner of the Columbia Human Rights Commission. She earned a BA in Business Administration from Stephens College. Smith is a 1980 graduate of Rock Bridge HS.
